暁の護衛 Trilogy Review

Akatsuki Banner
Well, as I have said in the previous post about レミニセンス, I would write another post about 暁の護衛. I have no plan actually at the beginning, it's just the hype about レミニセンス made me remember the hype about 暁の護衛 xD. 暁の護衛 actually is a trilogy, is in the process of Englishization by one of the translation team out there, and on top of that is godlike. It stands distinguishable from typical visual novels, because story of the trilogy mainly focuses on the male protagonist. Heroine routes serve to explain more about the male protagonist (either it is his 'hidden' hobby, favorite books, favorite music, etc. (lol)). Afterwards, the same formula is used by グリザイア trilogy, in which the story mainly revolves on the protagonist. How awesome is this trilogy actually? Tune in my review folks xD

The concept of the story is this: Crime has grow uncontrollably in the city. In every corner of the street, crime happens. To eradicate this crime from becoming more uncontrollable, the government makes a certain district of the city as 'special place for crime perpetrators', which people that committed crime will be placed in that district and be prohibited from entering the city. Consequently, the city has less and less crime each day. The city grows prosperously. But, since that 'certain district' only has troublemakers, the condition there compared to the city is like heaven and hell. Often, because of that, people from the 'certain district' secretly goes to the city and do crimes again to make their life better. To counter this risk, in addition to the police, the government establish a bodyguard school to help guarding the elites of the city from such crimes. The protagonist, Asagiri Kaito, enters the school and try to become a bodyguard.

BTW the protagonist is incredibly badass. He can do practically anything, from lock picking to survive falling from story buildings. Because he loves books. He even can spent one day long at his room reading books and practically not doing anything else. He is a punk by the way and refuses to listen to anyone else.

Anddd the scores:

Story 9/10
Very unique setting. Gold humour. Nice pace of serious and hilarious story. When you realise it, you might have been addicted to the setting of the story. And you want more. And MORE I SAY. Unfortunately, for some routes, are inconsistent and lacking depth.
Graphic 10/10
Nicely drawn and beautiful. Everything is top notch; the characters, backgrounds, CGs, SDs, etc.
Music 9/10
The music are good. There are nicely played and recorded. Many tracks are memorable, but some are not too. The opening and endings are very good. The VAs also has done a good job
Personal Impression 10/10 --> 20/20 (x2)
This title left a deep impression (as you might have guessed). The protagonist are totally awesome. The story is very hilarious, so you never get bored reading it. If there is any constraint in reading the story, it is the time constraint :p
Overall 48/50 (98%)
The first trilogy covers some of Kaito's background, the heroines, and their families story. IMO, this is the best of the trilogy, because the story has good balance of serious and hilarious story.

The second story in the trilogy is mainly fan disk. As you might have guessed, it is mainly revolves around the heroines, telling their after stories. There is some continuation on the main story though, as it tells more background of Kaito. There's just not many to say about fan disk right? :p

Scores againnnn:

Story 7/10
Well, there is some meaningful story about the protagonist, but mainly it is about the heroines. Unfortunately, most of them add no additional information about them; it is just meaningless humour. The trilogy losses some of its goodness in this instalment.
Graphic 10/10
Meanwhile, the graphic is still top notch. Everything is as beautiful as the first installment.
Music 8/10
The music is still as good as the first instalment. Some of the tracks are memorable, but the number is far less than the first instalment. Some of the tracks is just not memorable or quick to be forgotten.
Personal Impression 8/10 --> 16/20 (x2)
While the series is heavy in fan stories that adds no improvement to the main story, the title is still fundamental to the trilogy. More main protagonist background is uncovered here, and it is interesting to see the heroines after stories. Furthermore, there are little details that proved to be important in the last instalment.
Overall 41/50 (82%)
A good title, but could have been better. It is still have the spirit of 暁の護衛 though, so read this instalment! xD

The third instalment cover the lost details of the main protagonist story. This instalment is pure awesomeness, because there are many fights here and there. The fights are nicely told, you can feel the adrenaline. The fights are one of the good points of this trilogy actually, so have an expectation for its quality! xD

Scores, scores, scoooores:

Story 9.5/10
Awesomeness of the first instalment continues. This time around though, it totally focuses on the main protagonist. Unfortunately, the main protagonist is incredibly overpowered in this instalment that he almost never losses until the point of godlike (everyone he fought expresses the powerlessness against him. He did lose when he was surrounded by numerous opponents, but hey).
Graphic 10/10
Still top notch I say.
Music 8/10
I don't really remember about the tracks this instalment uses. Is it very forgetful? Anyway it did use some tracks from previous instalment that are good, so it is still notable
Personal Impression 8.5/10 --> 17/20 (x2)
Unlike the first instalment, this instalment focuses mainly in fights and you might expect the seriousness. Lacking hilariously, I feel not really want to play it twice, unlike the first instalment. The protagonist is still awesome though.
Overall 44.5/50 (89%)
Epic end for an epic trilogy. So much explosion in this title, and all out war. I like how the SWAT team assault the opponents, and how the fights unfold. The fights were epic!

That was it folks! It is an epic trilogy and I recommend you to read all the trilogy. Totally recommended for everyone, because every character is likeable, from the heroines, supporting characters, and protagonists. If you like this trilogy, don't forget to read its spiritual sister: レミニセンス.
By the way, if you want a clear actual example of how the trilogy would be, watching this movie might be good (NSFW WARNING! NOT SAFE FOR WORK! AKA 18+ CONTENT, BLOOD EVERYWHERE AND OTHERS):

Recap

Then, see you on another post folks! xD
